時効管理課の温泉旅行の幹事になった霧山（オダギリ ジョー）は、行き先を考えている最中、新しい時効事件を発見。日本のモーツァルト的存在だった天才作曲家・雨田潮（ROLLY）が殺された本件の捜査は、被害者の残した「サリエリ」というメッセージにかく乱され、時効を迎えていた。現場は秘境の塩砦温泉。自腹で時効捜査を続けたため金欠気味の霧山は「最後の捜査になるかもしれない」と覚悟し、定期預金を解約。費用を捻出し、事件の起こった町の派出所へ。警官・林田（笹野高史）の話では、雨田は現在作曲家として活躍する冴島翠（りょう）と、風俗で働いていたアンズ（つぐみ）と三角関係にあったという。
