“春夏冬”で常連客の大岩（柄本明）が突然吐血した。病院に付き添った黎（米倉涼子）が、入院手続きのために大岩の鞄を見ると、20年前に瀬谷利夫（諌山幸治）という若い警察官が殺害された事件の手配書と捜査メモが出てきた。大岩は元刑事だったのだ。時効が過ぎた今も、ひとり捜査を続けていた大岩に、黎は協力を申し出る。だが聞き込みをしても新たな手がかりは見つからず、瀬谷の母親に会った黎は、「過去をほじくり返さないで」と言われてしまう。「多くの人の人生を変えた人間の顔を、この目で見たいだけ」と語る大岩の言葉に執念を感じた黎と純は、真相解明への思いを新たにする。
